At higher levels, students learn to express opinions, describe experiences, and understand cultural topics. They might read short stories, articles, or even poems in French, and discuss themes in class. Teachers often encourage pair or group work so students can proactive conversational skills and gain confidence speaking in real situations.

How do teachers teach French

In the early grades French is often focusing on the basic vocabulary and simple phrases. Students learn how to introduce themselves, describe everyday objects, count numbers up to 100, name colours, and talk about their families and hobbies. Teachers might use songs, games, and pictures to make it fun and help students remember new words. As students progress, lessons become more focused on grammar, sentence structure, and pronunciation. Teachers introduce the rules of verbs, tenses, and gendered nouns.

In addition to language French classes also explore Francophone culture, including traditions, food, music, and festivals from different French speaking countries. This cultural element helps students understand the culture better and the importance.

French can be taught in many ways to help students build skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing the language. Teachers use a mix of activities and strategies to make learning both practical and engaging.

Teachers produce the rules for verbs, tenses, and gendered nouns. Students practice through speaking exercises, short conversations, reading passages, and writing simple paragraphs. Students might also watch videos to improve their comprehension and accent.

French 9

In French 9 you build off of the criteria and big ideas that you have learnt in grade 8. Students will increase their understanding by doing many writing and speaking activities whether it is projects or just assignments and through films, stories, and music. Doing those activities with enhance their reading and listening comprehension 

French 11

In French 11 students will focus on their writing and speaking from setting their mind on grammar, pronunciation as well as listening skills. To build off of what students have learned in previous years. Through units on job opportunities, media, and travel students will use advanced grammar to respond in sentences.

French 10

In French 10 it builds on the big ideas and skills learnt in grade 9 . To learn students will do cooperative group work, group activities with communicating, and oral development. Students will develop their skills by looking through different themes  for examples travel, art, and novel study.

French 12

In French 12 students build on their language skills and focus more on complex grammar, advanced vocabulary, and cultural immersion through literature, film, and current events. The curriculum typically includes preparing for university-level studies and may culminate in the Baccalauréat, which is a comprehensive French language exam.
