All About English Literature 

English 9

In English 9, students will read famous works like Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, or poems b writers such as Maya Angelou and Robert Frost. By studying these texts, they not only improve their understanding of English but also discover the power of storytelling. English literature helps them express their own ideas clearly, think critically, and appreciate the beauty of language and human experience.

English 11

English 11 it is an important  year because it builds on everything you've learned before and prepares you for higher level English. Students analyze a variety of  literature, including novels, plays, poetry, and short stories. The focus is on understanding themes, characters, and authors techniques, while connecting texts to the real world. Writing is a major part of the course, with essays, creative piece, and sometimes re search projects helping students develop a clear structured communication. By the end of the semester, students improve their  reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, which will prepare them for future studies and real life communication.

English 10

In English 10, students focus on becoming stronger readers, writers, and thinkers. You get to study a mix of literature such as novels, short stories, plays, poem, and nonfiction text. The goal is to understand how authors use language to express ideas and create emotion, and explore themes. You also learn to analyze characters, settings, and symbols while discussing how stories connect to real life issues. Writing is another major part of the course. You write essays, creative pieces, reflections, and sometimes research papers. Teachers help you organize ideas, build strong arguments, and use proper grammar and citations. Speaking and listening also important . You'll take part in class discussions, group work, and presentations to build confidence in expressing your thoughts.

English 12

In English 12 it will be the last year of high school before university meaning it will be more advanced. It focuses on advanced reading, writing, and critical thinking skills to prepare students for university, college, or the workplace. Students read a variety of texts, novels, plays, poems, short stories, and sometimes films. This is to help learn to analyze themes, characters, and literary techniques. Writing becomes more formal and focuses on essays, literary analysis, and research.

In class, we read everything from famous classic writers for example Shakespeare to modern authors who write about today's issues. English Literature  gives us the chance to enjoy great stories while also learning more about ourselves and the world.

English Literature is all about exploring stories, plays, poems, and other writings in the English language. It's not just reading books but about discovering the ideas, feelings, and messages that writers share through their writing. When we study literature we get to step into different worlds and times. We can experience the adventures of heroes, the struggles of ordinary people. Through these stories, we also learn about history, culture, and the ways people have thought and lived over the years.

So what is English really about at Palmer? 

lt involves reading, analyzing, and writing about works of poetry, drama, and prose from different periods and genres to develop critical thinking, creativity, and empathy, as well as to deepen understanding of language, culture, and diverse human experiences. Students study themes, characters, literary techniques, and the historical context of texts to gain insights into different viewpoints and improve their analytical and communication skills. 

Studying English helps us build skills we use every day. We can think deeply, ask questions, understanding other perspectives, and expressing our own ideas clearly. It also encourages creativity and helps us connect to what we read in our lives.
