What is Social Studies?
Social studies, as a subject, is about helping students understand how humans exist within communities. Social Studies establishes the foundation for students to learn about the past, the diversity of nations, and how societies function. This foundation allows for an understanding of how the world operates and how people choose among their options.
Social Studies is an area of study focused on how humans exist as members of communities (societies). The Social Studies subject area familiarizes the student to the history, the governmental systems and the various cultural perspectives around the globe. Social Studies is a vital area of study in preparing students for informed citizenship and active responsibilities.
Social Studies provides insight into how citizens, their responsibilities and rights, and the formation of a government function. Students learn about the formation of governments and how citizens participate in their protection through laws. Knowledge of social studies provides students with a greater understanding of various nations and views around the globe.
