What students use to learn in these courses

Palmer mainly uses Theory and Problems workbooks made by Mickelson.
PALMER MATH COURSES
Having different math courses build essential skills like logic, problem solving, and analytical thinking. Students may have different goals in the future as well, so specific courses can match what they need to graduate for their future.
At Palmer we have a range of math courses that students can take according to what their level is. They can go from taking the regular course to the AP pre-calculus and honour math in the incentive program
COURSES THAT PALMER PROVIDES
-
Mathematics 9: Builds on Grade 8 concepts.
-
Workplace Mathematics 9 & 10: For students entering trades or needing practical skills.
-
Foundations of Mathematics 10/11/12: For non-calculus university paths.
-
Pre-Calculus Mathematics 10/11/12: For theoretical calculus university paths.
-
Students complete Grades 8-10 Math/Science by Grade 9, allowing for advanced courses in Grade 10.
-
Enriched Pre-Calculus Math 11/12 & AP Calculus (AB/BC) options in later grades.
Accelerated Learning: Incentive students get a head start.
AP Options: University-level math available.
Pathways: Choices for trades, college, or university (Calculus).
How different math courses help
Arithmetic / Basic Math
The part of math that deals with simple number operations like adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. It helps with everyday things like money, budgeting, and basic problem-solving.
Algebra
A branch of math that uses letters and symbols to represent numbers. It helps us find unknown values, recognize patterns, and model real-life situations in science and other subjects.
Geometry
The study of shapes, lines, angles, and space. It helps us understand how objects fit together and is important in areas like art, design, architecture, and physics.
Calculus (Differential & Integral)
A type of math that studies how things change and how quantities build up. It’s used to understand motion, growth, and complex systems in science and engineering.
Statistics & Probability
The branch of math that deals with data and chance. It helps us collect information, understand trends, and predict the likelihood of events.
