Why Chemistry is Studied
Students who study chemistry have a wide variety of career options available to them because chemistry is applicable to so many different areas. Chemistry is both an important area of study for related sciences as well as a useful subject to study for many non-science-based careers.
One of the more common areas of employment for chemistry students is healthcare. Chemists have many options for careers in the healthcare industry, such as pharmacy, laboratory technician, and medical researcher. There are also careers in the environmental sciences that require knowledge of chemistry. For example, chemists work to test the quality of potable (drinkable) water as well as control the amount of contaminants entering our environment.
There are also numerous opportunities for chemistry graduates to enter the food, cosmetic, manufacturing, and educational sectors. Graduates who attain degrees in chemistry will utilize many of the same skills, including critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills, in any of the industries listed above. Therefore, chemistry is a degree that will allow one to have successful and secure employment.

Chemistry is the scientific study of the world around us, including how we create, use and interact with the materials we interact with on a daily basis. All physical objects are made out of physical substances (matter). Chemistry explains how matter is created, how it can be altered (changed) into new types of matter and how it interacts with other matter (reacts). As such, through studying chemistry, students will gain insight into many phenomena that occur in their daily lives, including: cooking (how food cooks), the way pharmaceutical drugs work (how drug interactions affect a patient's body) and how metals rust (oxidation).
CONCLUSION
In summary, Chemistry is important because it helps people to learn about nature; improves the quality of human life; develops important thought processes; teaches us how to relate science to everyday life; and provides access to a variety of careers, including Medicine, Engineering, Research and Environmental Protection. For this reason Chemistry is a subject that students should be encouraged to study.

FUN FACT!
Studying chemistry also helps us as humans because of how chemistry can add to the way we experience life or in terms of quality of life, right? In addition to making students aware of the role of chemistry in creating medicines, providing clean drinking water, producing safe and nutritious food, and developing materials (e.g., plastics, fuels), chemists will also study chemistry as a means to help us find ways to solve problems related to health care, pollution and lack of energy. Therefore, learning chemistry is not limited to being a 'school subject', but it is also a discipline that can contribute to our ability to live healthier and safer lives.
In addition to improving quality of life, chemistry helps develop important skills and provides students with the opportunity to think critically and logically, solve problems effectively and conduct research and experimentation with rigor and precision. These skills are beneficial not only in the field of science but also in other professions and in daily living. Through the study of chemistry, students can learn how to be curious, formulate hypotheses, evaluate data and draw conclusions.
The human body contains enough carbon to make about 9,000 pencils (using graphite)!
